Lassiter Beats Pope for The First Time in 6 Years
It has been 6 years since the Lassiter Trojan football team beat Pope High School. On September 19th 2025 the Trojans took on Pope High School once again. Going into the game the Trojans were 3-2 and the Greyhounds were 0-5. With the Trojans recently being highlighted as team of the week by Fox 5 News, and having a record 3-0 earlier this season for the first time since 2017 the energy was high all around. Even the Lassiter Chick-Fil-A owned by Scott Reed got in on the hype by hosting by a poll on which team would win the game (Lassiter won the poll by 100+ more votes than Pope).
The stands were packed for the rivalry game. The Greyhounds were cheering in their gold out for their Matt Hobby night and for childhood cancer month. The Trojans were cheering in Neon lighting up the stands.
Throughout the entire game the energy was high. The band and cheerleaders pumped up the stands and the football team had amazing plays from punt returns, tackles, touch downs, and many more. By half time the a Trojans were 35-7, and they finished the game 49-7.
This is the first Trojan win against the Greyhounds under head coach Sean Thom. So, to celebrate the football players dumped Gatorade over Coach Thom’s head at the end of the game. September 19th was more than just a win it was breaking a 6 year losing streak to our biggest rivals, the Pope Greyhounds.
